In keeping with its intent to do everything possible to insulate business interests from meaningful accountability, we have the latest from the Bush administration: expanding federal preemption to block the ability of consumers to bring lawsuits for a wide variety of defective products.

It is astonishing to me how many core principles of conservatism the George W. Bush has thrown out the window in the last seven years. Smaller government? Forget it. Accountability and personal responsibility? It must be inversely proportional to the person or entity’s wealth. Access to our judicial system? Again, the less money or power you have, the less likely you are to be able to get through the courthouse doors. Efficient government? Please.

For another example of the strenuous efforts to limit the ability of individuals to obtain a level playing field in taking on insurance or corporate interests, take a look at this remarkable executive order. November 4, 2008, can’t get here soon enough.   One of the prominent hallmarks of George W. Bush is his willingness to elevate money over the non-monetary interests of human beings.
